Stanford masterclass now on YouTube

“Gustav Leonhardt lived and breathed music of the 17th and 18th centuries. He had an unprecedented understanding of how this music should be played. It was not just in a theoretical, musicological way, although that was present too, but how it could best be expressed and felt, and could sing to us and speak to us, and move our emotions.” Former Leonhardt students Elaine Thornburgh and Jillon Stoppels Dupree held a masterclass at Stanford University in which they passed on some of Leonhardt’s ideas and techniques to five young harpsichordists. Fortunately this masterclass was videoed and has now been published by the Gustav Leonhardt Pedagogy Archive. Our YouTube channel also has playlists with didactic videos by other Leonhardt students, as well as a short excerpt from a masterclass by Leonhardt himself.
