William Byrd My Ladye Nevells Booke recording - Pieter Jan Belder

Not a review, just a communication.

A few days ago has been published Byrd’s My Ladye Nevells Booke played by Pieter-Jan Belder, on CD, Apple Music and Spotify, maybe on other platforms as well. Spotify link: Spotify

I’ve read somewhere the CD features a comprehensive booklet by Jon Baxendale who edited the score and published with Lyrebird Music. As the online platforms still don’t make the booklets available, I guess it’s best to purchase the CD.
As I don’t own the CD, I don’t know what instruments are used, nor where the recording has been done etc.

All I can say is: usual very fine playing by Belder; very warm sound; recorded close, which I prefer, but in this case I can detect some action noise. However it’s not disturbing to me. The music is beautiful.

On a personal note, I love “complete” of everything: editions in print, recording of works etc. Pieter-Jan Belder seems to love the same himself as he made complete recordings of Scarlatti, Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, Soler, Byrd and so on.
I have a deep envy of people who can play and record more music than I am even able to listen to.

No longer true. The very excellent new Presto Streaming service has better than CD quality in many cases and downloadable PDF booklets for a large number of recordings. It’s excellent. Reasonably cheap monthly subscription and very, very comprehensive. A service of Presto Music.

@Pjbelder it would be great if you could make commercial arrangements with Presto Streaming.

I really don’t want to buy any more discs of polycarbonate. And CD resolution is sounding poor compared to the higher resolution streaming editions nowadays. Especially for the nuances of harpsichord sound.

Hi,
I guess Brilliant Classics does actually. But l am not sure.

And please buy CDs. These platforms hardly pay anything. It’s the way for me to keep going….

Since Pieter Jan Belder was mentioned, at least one of his FVB volumes
is available on Presto Music. The CD-quality files are almost twice the
price of the actual CDs. And no booklet included… Even the MP3 files
are more expensive than the CDs.

Ah I didn’t know. Fine, I’ll try that. However Belder’s recording doesn’t seem to be there.
The absence of the booklets in the streaming platforms is still a problem, notwithstanding the very few exceptions. Let’s try to sustain the platforms which provide booklets, as prestomusic.

Ah, forgot the little Ruckers by Boogaard ( just sold it) that makes 5 Instruments
