Instrument Workshop

Does anyone know the latest situation about the Instrument Workshop? I note their site is currently ‘under maintenance’. If they have ceased trading, they must have quite a lot of stock in hand. The wire especially is still worth using … Or perhaps they have found a buyer for the business.

Don’t forget you can do very powerful searches of the forum if you use the web interface.

A couple of months ago I contacted the violin shop mentioned on their site and was told someone was considering taking it over. I was also told he may require some additional persuasion. Can’t remember his name, perhaps a professor, well known in harpsichord circles.

The IW used to also sell very good jackrail cloth. Does anyone know
where the equivalent can be purchased in Europe? Thanks.

Which is why I should have specified EU rather than Europe.

Does Vogel have anything suitable for a jackrail? This has to be the
place to ask.

I find Vogel clothes unsatisfying. The green material they advertise as “for jackrail” isn’t a cloth but felt. Not so efficient in damping the sound of the jack against the jackrail. I’ve purchased wool cloth for the jackrail and leather (fornfinal stropping after sharpening planes) here: https://www.tessutionline.eu/
I have purchased some wrong products, though, before finding a suitable one, because I didn’t ask for samples beforehand.

Claudio Casiglia, the Italian harpsichord maker, told me he purchased his cloth here: https://www.daimer-filze.com/. I’ve never ordered there, so I can’t relate.
